Our History

2003

GBC origins commenced in Minnesota during 2003 as United Lakes International, Inc. a residential and commercial maintenance company which grew as a supplier for construction materials companies in the US Midwest region.

2007

In 2007 United Lakes International, Inc. was sold to a local group and reborn as what is today General Bulk Consultants, Inc. (GBC) with the same pattern of marketing and trading thanks to past backgrounds in chartering, port administration, operations and trading.

2009

Since 2009 GBC has supply cement companies. Since the beginning of operations in 2009 GBC has shipped over 1,000,000 MT of raw materials and has fulfill an important liaison with one of the major mines in the West Coast (Campañia Minera CAOPAS, S.A. de C.V.).

GBC is committed to continue a steady and firm growth in the raw material trading world focusing in the cement industry.

We have agency and exclusive rights with some of gypsum’s biggest mines to guarantee volumes and availability for our customers.

GBC can source cement form various independent plants mainly in Europe and Asia and America.
GBC can offer spot cargoes or long term supply based on the customer requirement on sea worthy vessels in the following formats:

  • 42.5 kilogram bags in slings
  • 50 kilogram bags in slings
  • 1.5 ton jumbo/big bags


At all times we work to match the customer’s requirements with the best available logistics to deliver cargos on time, reducing transit time and port costs if possible.

  • Our available cement types as per ASTM C150
  • Type I – Normal Portland Cement
  • Type II – Moderate Sulphate Resistance
  • TYPE V – High Sulphate Resistance Cement

GBC source directly cement clinker form various independent plants mainly in Europe and Asia and America.
GBC can offer spot cargoes or long term supply based on the customer requirement.
At all times we work to match the customer requirements with the best available logistics to deliver cargos on time, reducing transit time and port costs if possible.

  • Our available clinker types are
  • Type I/II – Typically for Type I and Type II Cement
  • TYPE V – Tipically for Type V Sulphate Resistance

GBC has direct communications with the largest independent cement, clinker and gypsum producers in Europe, Middle East, Asia and America to supply the North, Central and South American markets.

Since 2009 General Bulk has also been representing Compañía Minera CAOPAS, S.A. DE C.V. gypsum for Central and South American Markets with yearly volumes over 300,000 MT.

Shipping

GBC has been involved in chartering and shipping of bulk and bagged products for over a decade. It’s strength is based on dry bulk cargoes and mainly minerals.

GBC logistics and port experience and support has no frontiers with successful cargoes in most continents. We offer a wide range of chartering solutions with in-house and 3rd party chartering options to fulfill customers needs.

GBC has direct contact with owners for most fixtures and in cases we utilize Amazonas Shipping S.A. a Colombian company based in Bogota as chartering broker.

Insurance

GBC insure all their cargos with charterer’s liability and marine and cargo insurance to guarantee coverage to the end user.

GBC has worked since the beginning closely with underwriters of RaetsMarine Insurance company well known for their support in protection and indemnity insurance “P&I” company specialist and AON Insurance Company both located in the United Kingdom. GBC has worked with both insurance companies under the same insurance policy since 2009 and has had a clean record and reputation thru time.
